SNAP Project
S.N.A.P. stands for Shropshire Newport Archive Photographs.
The project was a Local Heritage Initiative lottery-funded project, which ran from 2005-2008, and has allowed us to scan in photographs and slides from Newport History Society’s archives and also from local people; we are very grateful for these donated images.
We have digitised over 4,000 images, together with details about the image, when and where it was taken. They are now available in the Shropshire Archive’s Discover Shropshire database.
For a fascinating view back over a century and a half of the life of Newport and the surrounding villages, the best images are in sixteen albums, including such topics as ‘The Guildhall’, ‘Villages & Hamlets’ or ‘Leisure in Newport’ etc. To go to the SNAP albums on Discovery Shropshire’s History website, click here.
